Tiny home made possible with Sanifos 280 GR

Tiny homes and granny flats are becoming increasingly popular, and they are a great way to ease the nation’s housing crisis. However, to comply with relevant building standards, granny flats and tiny homes must have plumbing amenities (including kitchen and bathroom facilities). That can be a challenge because these residences are often built lower than adjacent street-level homes.

A Saniflo client recently had this issue with their tiny home build. The site was far from the road and below its drainage. To provide plumbing for this home, the Sanifos 280 GR was the perfect solution: an in-ground lifting station ideal for granny flats and tiny homes. It takes the wastewater from all plumbing fixtures within a residence (such as the sink, toilet, shower and laundry) and then pumps the waste below ground and out to the street drainage. The product’s 280 L tank created adequate capacity for the unit’s waste, allowing for increased wet-area design flexibility.

“When specifying the right drainage product for a complete small residential setting, the Sanifos 280 covers all bases,” said Ollie Benstead, technical officer at SFA Australia/New Zealand.

Benstead added that the product’s inbuilt storage capacity and included alarm system not only gave designers and installers flexibility in choosing connection heights, it also gave them peace of mind.

The Sanifos 280 GR is an in-ground lifting station ideal for Granny flats and tiny homes. It can take waste from all plumbing fixtures within a residence, such as the dishwasher, sink, toilet, shower, bath, basin and laundry. The Sanifos 280GR is activated via a float switch, which turns on a powerful grinder pump. It also features an included alarm system.

Key benefits

  • Pumps up to 14 m vertically or 140 m horizontally, or a combination of both
  • 280 L tank capacity
  • Features a grinder impeller, which allows it to dispose of greywater and blackwater

Sanifos 280 extension ring

A 40 cm extension ring designed specifically for the Sanifos 280 GR can be added onto the in-ground tank to allow for additional excavation depth where needed. Using this extension ring avoids having to implement a concrete riser, which can be unsightly and costly.

For this tiny home, an extension ring was required to allow for increased fall from the fixtures in the tiny home to the Sanifos 280 GR.
