Taps are at once utilitarian and highly sculptural. We use them many times a day, often without thinking. That’s why the ergonomic design of tapware is so important. But the rise of the open-plan domestic kitchen and “bathroom as sanctuary” has fuelled a proliferation of spouts and mixers, not to mention rain showers and shower columns, that are beautiful design features in their own right.
