The louvre window’s simple ability to create an almost completely open aperture with the flick of a lever, and to control the direction of airflow by adjusting the pitch of the louvre blades, makes it a powerful asset in passive climate control. When closed, glass louvres function as traditional windows, while timber louvres and aluminium louvres act more like shutters, fully blocking out light and views.
