To extend the life of existing timber bridges or build replacement bridges, Australian timber specialist and plywood manufacturer Big River Group has developed BridgePly, an engineered timber system that replaces existing timbers.
BridgePly is a structural-grade engineered plywood bridge deck system that acts as an alternative to steel and concrete decks; it can be less expensive and faster to install. BridgePly is a low-cost option that does not require that a bridge be replaced, saving time and material costs. The product helps to absorb much of the extra vibration of heavy vehicles while also tying together the other timber components of the bridge.
The material from which BridgePly is made has fire-resistant qualities that can withstand temperatures up to 1,000° C for up to 50 minutes. Providing a time-efficient solution due to its light weight, BridgePly can be moved in large sections with the same machinery used for other materials. As a timber-based product, most of the machinery alterations can be done onsite with hand tools. Installation can occur in a timely manner with minimal disruption.
Big River Group also offers drop-in services and temporary bridges for immediate solutions to reconnect communities.
