Perforated metal bridge, Unanderra Station.

Arrow Metal has helped to deliver another successful project for NSW Transport for Access Program, manufacturing custom metal panels for a new perforated bridge, canopies, and stairs at Unanderra Station.

Creating a modern perforated bridge for Unanderra

The upgrade improves accessibility at the historic transport hub that opened in 1887 to provide a better experience for public transport customers by delivering modern, safe and accessible infrastructure.

As well as improving safety and access, the beautiful architectural design involved consultation with Coomaditchie United Aboriginal Corporation and local designers to weave Aboriginal narratives and themes throughout the station to provide an enriching experience for commuters, connecting them to the natural environment; as such, the intricate perforation pattern for the bridge, canopies, and stairs was carefully considered and designed.

Working with project fabricators Alfabs Engineering Group and the projects’ construction company Degnan, Arrow Metal customized a classic round design to meet the project’s distinctive aesthetics and goals.

Arrow Metal punched over 300 aluminium sheets with 20 mm holes in 30% and 40% open area, which allows commuters to enjoy the scenic views, maximizes natural light, and provides weather protection.

Panels were folded to meet project engineering specifications and finished in Dulux Duratec Monument grey to complement the colour scheme and additional facilities.
