Hornsby South Public School is an inclusive and creative learning community focused on excellence in teaching practice and student achievement. There are f44 different language backgrounds other than English that are represented in the school community. There is a strong relationship between the school and local community as evidenced by the construction and use of a multipurpose building named "the YURT."

The brief was to enhance the functionality and aesthetics of outdoor seating areas at Hornsby South Public School and ensure a safe and enjoyable area for students to enjoy their breaks. 

Challenges included

• Space constraints: positioning seating and picnic settings to maximise outdoor space without disrupting student movement or play.
• Safety: ensuring the new products met all safety standards and regulations was paramount, especially considering the vulnerability of the young students.
• Durability and maintenance: identifying sturdy, long-lasting, and low-maintenance seating options.
• Inclusivity: ensuring that the selected furniture was compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act to ensure an inclusive and comfortable environment for students of all abilities.

After evaluating the challenges and requirements, Hornsby South Public School selected the Laminate-top Orbit settings and a selection of picnic settings from Astra’s Liverpool Suite. 

“The new Astra furniture we've placed around the school is great!” said the client. “The kids love it just outside the canteen because they can eat and chat with their friends. Also, it will get well used when the school is being utilised for other events, such as the state election voting day etc.”
