One of the newest features of the lighting range is the new wireless functionality of the Touch Link system. This means that almost all Halemeier Lighting products are now smart-home capable. The fundamental idea behind a smart home is to have lighting, security cameras, air conditioning and smart appliances connected and handled by automatic systems over the same network.
However, with so many companies make different devices, this can become problematic to connect and have them working together on one network using a single common language. That is where Zigbee assists – it's a complete solution that uses a universal language, allowing Zigbee-certified devices to connect and communicate with each other on a secure low-power network. Zigbee also allows for forward and backward compatibility.
A mesh network is used, so every time an extra lighting device is added – an S-Mitter basic MultiWhite2 controller, for example – the strength of the network improves and allows you to add further devices to the home with no hard-wired connections required. As long as the next controller is in range, the connection will be successful.
