Williams Reserve is located on bustling Victoria Street, in the multi-storey inner-city Melbourne suburb of Richmond. This much loved and well-used urban park is frequented by residents and local workers alike.
To meet the ever-changing needs of this multicultural community, the City of Yarra commissioned Hansen Partnership to lead a consultative redevelopment of the reserve. Hansen’s vision for the space has been translated into a recreation landscape that highlights the park’s significant historical markers, while bringing to life a thoroughly modern, urban destination.
The contemporary urban oasis boasts curvilinear paths, retained mature trees, and paving features that resonates with the nearby "barcode" retail culture. New park amenities include a children’s playground and social seating as well as uber-modern picnic settings, complemented by an A Series Christie wheelchair accessible public barbecue.
The smart urban redesign provides the community with a disability-accessible inner-city backyard in which to relax, socialize and play.
