Christie Barbecues at Inglis Park and Sales Ring playground

Christie Barbecues at Inglis Park.

Inglis Park in Randwick, designed by Arcadia Landscape Architecture, features several secluded spaces and an extensive lawn with a Christie commercial barbecue, dining facilities, and a children’s picnic party zone.

Recognized by the 2021 AILA NSW Award of Excellence for Play Spaces, and part of CBUS Property’s Newmarket mixed-use development, the design carefully balances community and visitor amenities with historical elements.

First developed in the 19th Century for the horse racing fraternity, majestic fig and Norfolk pine trees provide shelter and tell the remarkable story of the precinct. A 130-year-old Moreton Bay fig towers above the iconic horse Sales Ring – now a mega children’s playground that embodies innovative play design, accessibility, and environmental considerations.

Sandstone, brick paving, and timber from the old stables inform the design, public art and interpretive elements. Polished concrete tabletops, timber benches, and a pergola expand the adjacent food and beverage offering of the Newmarket Dining precinct.
