The Carrum Station and foreshore precinct underwent a significant makeover to make it safer and easier for the public to commute, shop and visit the beach. The revitalization project features landscaping around the train station that creates new spaces for the community to enjoy, including a forecourt, Carrum Village, a Foreshore Waterplay Park, and even public barbecues. Carrum Station’s design extends a coastal expression from the beachfront and is a pioneer of sustainability initiatives.
The project recently received the Joseph Reed Award for Urban Design and an award for Public Architecture at the 2021 AIA Victorian Awards. It has been described as “an extraordinary offer of civic generosity, elevating the commuter experience through the gift of a panoramic Port Phillip Bay view."
