Arrow Metal's shutter facades at Infinity apartments

19 February 2019
Arrow Metal created a folding perforated metal shutter facade for the entire development Canterbury’s new Infinity apartments.

Unique metal shutter facades by Arrow Metal were used at Canterbury’s new Infinity apartments. Architects Chanine Design (CDArchitects) faced the challenge of shielding residents from sun glare and offer privacy, without compromising the views and the semi-circular building design.

Arrow Metal created a folding perforated metal shutter facade for the entire development, which required almost unique folding for every panel. A key feature of the bedroom boutique apartments is its floor to ceiling glass window.

Some of the 500 perforated panels used are folded flat or zig-zag design and some have a combination of both. Each panel was precisely perforated and engineered to fold exactly as designed on installation, to achieve the vision of a simple architectural podium form, veiled with a perforated metal fixed and operable bi-fold screen system.

After manufacturing, the panels were powder-coated in different colours to create contrast and visual interest. The interiors of each apartment are designed to complement the imaginative exterior, with the metal shutter facade key to maximising the sense of space and light for residents.

Intricate in design and perforation, the folded metal shutter facade does not detract attention but creates a delicate curtain effect over the expansive windows.
