Aluminium perforated sheet at ASICS Oceania headquarters

7 July 2020
Perforated panels by Arrow Metal created a green wall for the new Asics Oceania HQ.

Arrow Metal aluminium perforated sheet was specified for sports giant ASICS’ new and prestigious Oceania HQ, forming the basis of a green wall logo installation.

Designed by architects Reid Campbell, SBA, Siren Design and UK-based WDC, ASICS’ impressive hub at Sydney Business Park, Marsden Park, spans a massive 57,000 m2.

As landscaping is a major feature of the modern complex, the Arrow Metal team was tasked with creating perforated metal that would not only make an impressive branding statement, but also form the basis of a vertical garden. Arrow Metal created 36 perforated panels for ASICS HQ using 3 mm aluminium.

The architects’ idea of using perforated metal, instead of other common living wall materials such as mesh, has multiple benefits:

  • Customized perforations: ASICS’ architects chose a classic, standard perforation style with bespoke tweaks to make it more suited for a green wall. Each panel involved a customized perforation of 70 mm diameter round holes, with a pitch of 87 mm. It was based on the popular P287 perforation, but with the holes punched closer together.
  • Customized growing: The climbing plants below the installed panels will naturally grow up and into the carefully positioned holes of the aluminium perforated sheet, eventually circling the ASICS branding at the centre.
  • Stable and strong: As a green wall base, perforated metal is durable, strong and very stable – ideal for Sydney Business Park exterior conditions.
  • Improved aesthetics: For the ASICS project, Arrow Metal finished each panel in a ‘Windspray’ colour, in keeping with the contemporary building envelope. Perforated metal can be customized with colours and effects for better aesthetics than traditional mesh.

ASICS’ new complex will support the company’s growth across Australia and improve efficiency for its retail partners and customers.

The hi-tech hub, split across three buildings at the front of Sydney Business Park, combines energy-efficient, sustainable working and retail spaces with relaxing and recreation facilities, including an internal Zen garden and private multi-use sports field.

The site was launched by ASICS superstar athletes Cooper Cronk, Sam Stosur, Caitlin Bassett, Brandon Starc and Kurtley Beale, together with a team from ASICS Oceania, including directors and employees, retailers, business partners, Sydney Business Park and Blacktown City Council representatives.
