An Australian Sustainable Hardwoods (ASH) product was specified for SSD Studio’s Shifted House in Bondi. ‘Iron Ash’ cladding served as the gateway between the interior and exterior spaces.
“Not only does ‘Iron Ash’ look amazing, the carpenters loved working with it,” said Sophie, an architect and interior designer at SSD Studio.
‘Iron Ash’ contains water-based additives deep in a core of Goodwood Victorian ash, which makes it suitable for external applications. Treated to H3 classification, ‘Iron Ash’ can be used in partnership with Goodwood to create a continuous flow of design.
Shifted House, which was built to accommodate two families together or independently in a beachside sanctuary, is a semi-detached post-war house that incorporates a balanced design of striking white walls and warm timber.
The brief was to configure the home to welcome light and breezes to the centre of the home for passive cooling in summer. Timber was used throughout the space to promote the sustainable principles of the brief.
