iGuzzini’s Laser Blade range has been an icon of innovation since its launch several years ago. It revolutionized the concept of the downlight by being the first linear downlight to perfectly integrate into architecture, transforming small invisible LEDs into powerful, uniform circles of light. This award-winning range, which includes Laser Blade XL, Laser Blade L, Laser Blade, Laser Blade System53 and Laser BladeInOut, has evolved to offer a number of state-of-the-art solutions which have been used in a number of locally and internationally prestigious projects, such as the European Council in Brussels (2016), the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum in Arese, Italy (2015), Athens international airport (2014) and Eatitaly building in Chicago (2014).
Laser Blade XS "The Blade" is the next stage in the evolution. It is an icon of miniaturization, a masterpiece of accuracy that cuts through ceilings and disappears into grooves just 28 mm wide to provide the ultimate experience in visual comfort and maximum expression of architecture.
This product meets the needs of architects and lighting designers looking to show light without revealing its source. The seemingly unfeasible minaturization has been made possible through innovative micro-optics, microchips, nanotechnology and micro-solutions for heat dissipation.

The Blade can deliver asymmetric light to illuminate vertical surfaces, or high-contrast light with different beam angles (24°, 36°, 55°). A narrow beam allows design elements to be accented, while a wider beam is used for general lighting. All beams guarantee excellent visual comfort thanks to the recessed position of the LEDs. The special configuration of the optical system creates a perfectly homogeneous circular distribution with no multiple shadows.
The range offers great design flexibility – available in linear and square form and finished in a choice of white, black, gold or anthracite grey for total integration in multiple application settings. Laser Blade XS "The Blade" is equipped with Tunable White, an innovative technology that allows users to adjust the colour temperature - i.e. the white colour variation - from 2,700 K to 5,700 K to improve psychological wellbeing through dynamic light with a rich spectrum, similar to daylight. Chromatic rendering is outstanding (CRI >90) also with warm colours, such as red.
Laser Blade XS "The Blade" was presented in a world premiere in London, the first stop of the international Blade Tour that continued on to Berlin, Paris, Lyon, Shanghai, Dubai, Sydney, Auckland and New York.
Over 300 members of the design community attended the Sydney launch at iGuzzini’s light studio on Jones Bay Wharf for the unveiling on 28 April, 2017. Guests experienced the beauty of The Blade in the specially designed Light Experience Room and were treated to a night of fine iGuzzini and Italian hospitality.
On 4 May, 2017, The Blade was awarded Architectural Interior Luminaire of the Year at the Lighting Design Awards held in London. The awards celebrate some of the most innovative and inspiring work found in the world of architectural lighting design.
