Cemintel™ adds trending Urban Grey to Designer Series™ Range
The dark beauty of smithies, foundries and forges has been embraced and rediscovered as the Industrial Evolution, a forecasted colour trend for 2013-2015. Based on ‘reinvent, reignite and renew’, this trending group of greys, blues, bone and greens, is strengthened by Cemintel™’s addition of Urban Grey to its Designer Series Range.
Colourways, Australasia’s leading trend forecast group established by the Design Institute of Australia, revealed its four trends of the latest colours, materials and finishes. Colourways Managing Consultant, Kim Chadwick talked about the inspiration and story behind the trends, in particular Industrial Evolution.
“This forecasted trend invites you to journey from the established past along a path to rediscovery. We treasure the strength of old walls and buildings and delight in reclaiming and revivifying them. The texture and grain of history is celebrated – molten patina, time aged timber, the flaws in concrete. This is where we see Cemintel’s Urban Grey, the raw yet soft texture with the undertones of grey is the ideal example of old becoming new,” said Kim Chadwick.
A natural but contemporary pane, Urban Grey has a raw cement look increasingly popular in Australasian design. A lightweight panel, Urban Grey utilises the Cemintel Designer Series unique clip fix system, meaning it can be installed quicker and cheaper than concrete.
Cemintel has been the revered external façade miscellany of both residential and commercial architects and builders since its inception in 2011. Cemintel’s Senior Product Manager Ben Thompson says the welcome addition of Urban Grey offers designers, home owners and architects the raw aesthetic look that Colourways has forecasted, enhancing and complementing the existing range of colours and styles.
“We’re seeing an evolvement born from vintage and old-school designs across all industries from fashion to furniture and lifestyle. Old is new. Architects and designers are appreciating the stories behind history-filled buildings, taking the role of both preserving and enhancing which strengthens the desire for building products that will both enrich and blend with the surrounds.
“Not only are people living their life more simply, getting back to the basics; growing vegetables and being involved in their neighbourhood, we’re seeing this emerging trend of large scale designs architecturally that are based on previous eras or at minimum, combining history with future, which is where we see Urban Grey being the ideal façade product,” said Ben Thompson.
“Building on Colourways’ Industrial Evolution, relating this directly to the Industrial Revolution, a period that introduced the 18th century to its biggest advancements in technology and employment, it was also the century that took its biggest toil on the environment through pollution and waste. Now, in the 21st Century, we’re looking at its inverse century as we try to protect the environment and respect our world’s history through preservation, using building products such as Cemintel’s BareStone and its new Urban Grey to mirror this popular trend of industrial verses nature with lightweight materials with a low embodied energy and reduced environmental impact.
Urban Grey complements the current Designer Series™ Range, consisting of six pre-fabricated, cement bonded, fibrous wood particle panels.
Designer Series is suitable for interior and exterior application and features a variety of textures and colours with the ultra-modern i-cube, Textured panels, traditional Slimline, classic Woodgrain and minimalist Smooth.
We are the fibre cement and lightweight composite solution specialists. Cemintel is focused on a fresh, intuitive approach to lightweight façades, building solutions and feature walls. Our passion is to help Australians build better.Learn more
