Unique Swedish-Brazilian design partnership
Creative, Brazilian chaos meets West Swedish spirit of enterprise. The Campana brothers and the Eklund sisters have entered into a unique partnership – a companionship that stretches the boundaries of design and presents new possibilities for Bolon’s products. The new partnership made its first appearance at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in February where it exhibited a most eye-catching stand. This will be followed by a world tour with Milan and Salone Del Mobile as the next stop.
”We have met Fernando and Humberto on a number of occasions over the years, especially at the Milan Fair, and we have developed a relationship of mutual respect and interest in each others’ work. When we met last spring, we discussed the possibility of doing something together. The Campana brothers were quite enamoured by our visual strategy for Artisan, this year’s new flooring product, and were keen to contribute with their own interpretation. Our showcase at the Furniture Fair will be the introduction of our new partnership. We also have a number of joint projects in the pipeline but we are not releasing any details just yet,” comments Marie Eklund, Design Manager at Bolon.
The Campana brothers’ design vision revolves around deconstruction, transformation and reinvention – and the addition of the typical Brazilian mix of colours, simple everyday materials and smart off-the-street solutions. They want to build cultural bridges and bring people closer together by creating furniture that opens dialogue and stimulates innovation.
“Bolon’s materials fill us with incredible inspiration, especially its exciting new product for 2011, Artisan, and the visual concept of a gigantic mosaic puzzle that was created for the launch of the new floor,” Fernando and Humberto Campana enthuse. “In true Campana spirit, we tore everything to pieces and created a new puzzle – this time with a completely new stand. We have deconstructed Bolon and built one gigantic, chaotic item of furniture in mosaic style.”
Annica Eklund, CEO of Bolon says, “This partnership with the Campana brothers crowns an intensive and successful year for us. We have invested heavily in new machinery, larger production equipment, environmental improvements and new skills. Major orders are now starting to roll in from around the globe. I feel extremely confident and see a future full of opportunities for Bolon, in which our solutions move architecture forward. Bolon would not be Bolon if we didn’t aim for the stars, now would it?”.
