Roca acquires the Russian firm Akvaton

Roca has acquired Akvaton, the leading Russian company in furniture for the bathroom space. This acquisition marks an important step in Roca’s consolidation in this strategically important market, at the same time strengthening its leadership position worldwide.

Akvaton is an industry reference in the bathroom furniture sector in Russian market, with a market share of around 15%. The company’s plant, which employs 550 people, manufactures sanitary ware for the bathroom space and “solid surface” washbasins in the city of Davidovo, just 100 km east of Moscow.

With this new purchase Roca intends to satisfy increasing internal demand in the Russian market along with that of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), driven by strong economic growth which is hoped will continue over the coming years.

Since it first entered this market back in the early 90s Roca has confirmed its confidence in the growth potential of this country, ramping up its market presence to become the market leader in Russia’s bathroom space sector.

Within this context, during 2010 Roca bought the firm Ugrakeram OOO, which specializes in the manufacturing and marketing of vitreous china sanitary-ware. With this purchase Roca owns the vitreous china sanitary-ware factory with the biggest production capacity in the Russian Federation. The plant, which is located in Kaluga, 200 km south of Moscow, together with the Tosno plant which is 50 km from Saint Petersburg, and the plants at Cheboksary and Novocheboksarsk comprise the important Roca’s industrial presence in this country.

In June 2011 Roca also hopes to open a sixth plant, which will specialize in the manufacture of acrylic bathtubs.

Roca is leads the Russian market of bath spaces, and moreover it is the first Spanish company in investment volume terms.

This latest acquisition means that Roca now owns five production plants in Russia, employing over 2500 employees in total.
