The Otis GeN2® Machine-Roomless (MRL) Elevator System

Revolutionary design and technology

The GeN2 MRL elevator system is designed for low- to mid-rise residential and commercial office buildings. The hallmarks of the GeN2 technology are the lightweight, flexible reinforced steel belts, enveloped in a tough polyurethane jacket. These improve traction, require no lubrication, and are up to 20% lighter and last up to three times longer than conventional ropes (based on Otis’s highly accelerated life testing).

Experience the comfort

The door operator with variable speed AC control provides a ride of smoothness and comfort. The controller uses variable frequency drive technology and provides optimal passenger response times. A digital speed encoder ensures accurate car speed and positioning. This provides improved system reliability and a smoother ride.

Reliable, efficient and clean

The GeN2 MRL elevator system represents another step forward in Otis’s commitment to develop environmentally friendly products. The belts, gearless machine and disc brake require no oil or grease. The synchronous permanent magnet machine is the most efficient motor type of gearless machine around. An additional benefit of some of the GeN2 models is the inclusion of a ReGen® drive system that reduces energy use by capturing the energy normally dissipated as heat and feeding it back into the building’s internal electrical grid for use by other building systems.

Intelligent technologies

RSR Plus® Dispatcher (Relative System Response) reduces waiting time by selecting the most eligible car to answer a call. It analyses a set of parameters based on response time estimates and ideal group control practices.

REM® System (Remote Elevator Monitoring) is the most advanced of its kind for ensuring reliability. Twenty-four hours a day, the REM system monitors elevator functions – detecting deteriorating components and intermittent anomalies. It provides immediate two-way voice communication between passengers, and trained Otis personnel at the Otisline® 24-hour Customer Care Centre.

The GeN2 MRL elevator system is the ideal solution for low- and medium-rise buildings. Its maximum rise is 40 metres (14 stops) at 1.0 m/s speed or 75 metres (21 stops) at speeds of 1.6 or 1.75 m/s. A range of models is available, which covers passenger loads from 630 kg (8 passengers) to 2500 kg (33 passengers). The new range of GeN2 MRL also covers 17 and 21 passenger applications at the higher speed of 2.5 m/s.

The GeN2 MRL system is durable and robust and is suitable for heavy traffic flow in both commercial and residential applications. 

OTIS Gearless Systems

OTIS4000 gearless elevator system

The OTIS4000 series of model gearless elevators is suitable for medium- and high-rise residential and commercial applications.

The maximum rise achievable with this system is 145 metres (50 stops) at 2.5 metres per second and 3.5m/s.

Elevonic 411 gearless elevator system

The Elevonic 411 (E411) gearless elevator system is Otis’s range of high-speed elevator equipment. E411 is suitable for medium- and high-rise residential and commercial applications.

The maximum rise achievable with a “typical” configuration of this system is 60 stops at 7 m/s.

Skyway gearless elevator system

The Skyway gearless elevator system is Otis’s range of high-speed elevator equipment. Skyway is suitable for medium- and high-rise residential and commercial applications.

The maximum rise achievable with a “typical” configuration of this system is 90 stops at speeds up to 15 m/s.

GeN2® Lux elevator system

The GeN2 Lux elevator system offers the quality ride of the original GeN2 MRL elevator system but with added high-speed capacity. The energy-efficient gearless permanent magnet (PM) machine is isolated and in its own Machine Room Compartment (MRC) to provide an exceptionally quiet and comfortable ride.

The GeN2 Lux is generally used for high speed applications at 2.5 m/s and duty loads of 1000–1600 kg.
