Locker Group Boston 311A at the North South Bypass Tunnel
The North South Bypass freeway, Brisbane, includes a long stretch of tunnel, necessitating the construction of a number of exhaust stacks.
The architect designed a wire mesh façade with the aim of creating a visually attractive covering for the unsightly emergency stairwells, Locker Group’s Boston 311A in combination with the Ronstan tensioned cabling system, interfaced with the vertical language of the emergency exits and exhaust stacks. Providing a translucent, breathable veil for the egress point of each tower.
The combined concept met the visual aesthetic requirements as well as the contractor’s desire for fast and easy installation, without the addition of heavy structural steel support elements.
