Gyprock wet-area lining systems
The Building Code of Australia allows that wet areas in Class 1, 2, and 3 buildings may be treated in accordance with Australian Standard AS3740, 'Waterproofing of Wet Areas within Residential Buildings.'
Wet areas are defined as areas within a building that are supplied with water. They include bathrooms, showers, laundries and toilets, and exclude kitchens, bars and other food preparation areas. AS3740 classifies wet areas into levels of risk and specifies which walls, floors, junctions and penetrations are to be treated as waterproof or water-resistant. High-risk areas are bathrooms and laundries that require a floor waste, and shower areas. Medium-risk areas are outside of the shower in bathrooms and adjacent to baths and spas. Low-risk areas are laundries and toilets, and other walls adjoining sinks and tubs. This manual considers the treatment of walls and wall/floor junctions in these areas.
Gyprock Aquachek™ is a gypsum plasterboard with the core, face and back treated in manufacture to make it resistant to moisture and humidity. It is coloured light blue for easy identification.
Gyprock FlamechekMR™ offers the same moisture-resistant properties as Aquachek, with the added advantage of increased fire resistance. It may be used in these wet-area lining systems, and is fixed using the same methods as detailed for Aquachek.
