EasyGate from Centaman – security, aesthetics and ease of use

Centurion EasyGate at 321 Exhibition Street, Melbourne.

6 lanes of Centurion EasyGate LX from Centaman Entrance Control has been installed 321 Exhibition Street, Melbourne.

Built in 1990, 321 Exhibition Street has undergone a $32,000,000 refurbishment to make it one of Melbourne’s premier multi tenanted office buildings with Origin Energy as the new anchor tenant.

Part of the requirement for the building refurbishment was for an integrated access control system, lift destination control system and turnstile solution to limit access to the building to only authorised occupants and visitors and to speed up pedestrian movement in to and up through the building.

The final solution design incorporated the Schindler Port access and lift destination control system integrated with Centurion EasyGate LX speedgates so when staff enter the building they scan their card at the turnstile, which in turn directs them to the next available lift going to their specific floor whilst verifying they can access the building at that specific time.

Centurion EasyGate LX uses glass barriers of up to 1.8m in height, in conjunction with state-of-the-art optical technology to provide a high throughput security gate. The bi-directional glass barriers are designed to work in a ‘normally closed' mode and open after a valid card has been presented to allow the authorised user to pass. The barriers are designed to close quickly behind the authorised person to deter tailgaters whilst the IR sensors monitor the lane to detect unauthorised entry and ensure the safety of users. The Schindler PORT display and reader were custom built in to the EasyGate pedestals to provide maximum ease of use to the tenants of 321 Exhibition Street. “The integration of the Schindler PORT displays and the EasyGate turnstiles was key to ensuring a high speed, easy to use and secure access and lift destination control solution that gets people in to and through the building as fast as possible to achieve the throughput levels demanded by Cromwell Property Group who own and manage 321 Exhibition Street” said Michael Bystram, Entrance Control Manager at Centaman.
