Positive signs for certified timber in Australia

Arden Architectural supports the use of sustainable timber products in its commercial projects.

Arden supplier TLB Timber Pty Ltd has announced that they have been granted VLO under the SmartWood program of the Rainforest Alliance. The accreditation covers all solid dressed Merbau F27 and boards; decking and flooring products received from their accredited supplier in Indonesia.

As a significant timber consumer for their architectural stair and balustrade projects, Arden Architectural congratulates TLB and the Rainforest Alliance for taking such a positive step towards fully sustainable timber use in the Australian architectural sector.

Arden Architectural has a long track record in sourcing certified recycled or re-used timber products for their commercial projects, where architects and clients increasingly demand only the highest standards in green accreditation.

"In the past, it's been pretty difficult to source FSC or PEFC certified timber products for our stair and balustrade projects." admits Arden director Matthew Browne. "We're absolutely delighted that we can now offer our clients Kwila (Merbau) in addition to our other certified products".

Kwila has long been notorious in Australia as routinely coming from suspect sources.

Architects and specifiers are recommended to source reliable advice regarding sustainable timber species. The obligation is on project managers and builders to require full chain-of-custody documentation for applicable timber species from their stair or balustrade contractor.
