Arden's staircases exemplify a “Healthy by Design” approach

Arden is committed to the Heart Foundation’s “Healthy by Design” initiative, which encourages developers to incorporate building elements which create a healthier working environment. Staircases not only provide access control and inter-floor movement, but enable building occupants to take in moderate exercise on a daily basis.

Brisbane’s King George Central Development, a project of Leighton Properties, features a prominent street-level staircase, as well as staircases connecting office floors. Unlike a monolithic elevator core, a feature staircase engages its environment, creating a feeling of openness and lift. Brisbane's Lord Mayor Campbell Newman has hailed the building's sustainability and health-conscious design.

In keeping with the Healthy by Design initiative, Rio Tinto's new corporate headquarters at 123 Albert Street in Brisbane features an impressive feature staircase spanning over 30 office floors, currently being fabricated and installed by Arden Architectural Stairs for Lang O'Rourke Australia Constructions Pty Ltd.

Grant Thorne, Rio Tinto Group Executive Technology and Innovation says, "This new Brisbane Rio Tinto office will bring all of our people together and make it easier to work effectively and efficiently, to share information and ideas and to attract new people to our business."
