WE-EF wins Red Dot Award 2015 for Design Excellence of CFT500
In addition to technological advantages, the use of LEDs also offers a completely new perspective in terms of luminaire design. The international panel of 38 judges were so impressed by the ring-shaped CFT500 LED post top luminaire series from WE-EF that they granted it the Red Dot Award 2015 for Product Design, which this year celebrates its 60th anniversary.
The experts in the panel discussed and assessed each of the 4,928 submissions from 56 countries. Only product designs showing quality and innovation were awarded prizes. WE-EF's CFT500 LED for lighting public spaces, promenades, pedestrian zones and parks was easily able to convince the judges that it merited being awarded the well-established Red Dot seal of quality.
"LED technology opens up fresh scope for new design vocabularies," according to Petra Denst, Head of Product Design at WE-EF. An excellent example of this design approach, the new CFT500 LED post top luminaire, was presented by WE-EF at Light+Building 2014.
"The minimalist, precise alignment and clear, functional contour allow for an unobtrusive, timeless design that creates a surprisingly soft impression," Petra Denst explained. The ring-shaped luminaire housing has led to the development of new LED boards. WE-EF previously used square boards for streetlighting and public space luminaires, so the new semicircle LED boards open up additional design possibilities, especially in terms of future product developments.
