Fairview's Vitrabond aluminium cladding product has been selected by artist Liam Filson, for use in his Vivid sculpture entry for 2017, "Hedron Bulb".

The sculpture, which will have prime position outside the Opera House during the award-winning festival, will feature Vitrabond in the form of hexagons made from the popular anodized mirror finish.

Liam, who is also a graduate architect, came across the product at a recent industry event: "I knew what I was looking for but was surprised to find it at an architectural event. However, the product is extremely versatile and has the perfect finish for my sculpture. I'm looking forward to working with it on the Hedron Bulb," says Liam.

A major feature of the “Hedron Bulb's” design and its mission is: “to leave no footprint, with no remnant of what was, only that which can become something else.”  Therefore, Liam has designed the sculpture to be fully reusable.

So, what are his grand plans for the Vitrabond anodised mirror hexagons? To make them into a sparkling dodecahedron ottoman of course! More information on the sculpture and when you can see it can be found here.

Fairview's Vitrabond is no stranger to being used in non-traditional ways. Recently, it was used to imitate standing seam on a project in Sydney's Mosman, as the splashback in a kitchen installation and even as an alternative to tiling in a bathroom.

Fairview looks forward to witnessing Vitrabond's debut into the art scene and to seeing more creative uses for it in the future.
