United Nations Association of Australia awards Brightgreen
United Nations Association of Australia grants Brightgreen prestigious Sustainable Product Design Award.
Brightgreen have earned an award from the United Nations Association of Australia in recognition of their environmental leadership and outstanding contribution to sustainability.
The awards were held to mark World Environment Day on 5 June and recognise excellence in sustainable innovation: Brightgreen’s core philosophy.
Brightgreen won the Swinburne University of Sustainable Product Design Award for the DR700 LED replacement bulb which matches the brightness of an average 50 W halogen (720 lumens) on just 10.5 watts and lasts up to 70,000 hours, or 30 years with standard household use.
A single Brightgreen DR700 will save 2765 kWh of energy over the course of its life and prevent 2.6 tonnes of carbon emissions. The DR700 is efficient enough to carbon neutralise after 117 hours of use, just 0.16% into its designed life. Like all Brightgreen products, it’s 98% recyclable, free from any environmentally harmful materials and supported by a buy-back programme.
In recognition of its ecological excellence, the DR700 was adopted for use in the VEET and ESC government rebate schemes in Victoria and New South Wales, making its future potential to reduce carbon emissions even greater.
This is not the first time that Brightgreen has been recognised for its efforts to help the environment: in 2012, they won the Premier’s Sustainability Award in the Products or Services category, as well as the coveted Premier’s Recognition Award.
Brightgreen Head Product Designer and CEO David O’Driscoll was delighted to have been recognised by such a prestigious organisation.
“To be recognised by the United Nations Association of Australia is such an honour; it’s yet more validation of Brightgreen’s efforts to save energy and fight the culture of planned obsolescence.” said O’Driscoll.
Brightgreen will be adding many new products to their range of energy efficient LED lights this year, including version 2 of their ground breaking D900 Curve and Cube downlights.
Brightgreen supplies energy-efficient LED lighting including direct lighting, indirect lighting, task lighting, accent lighting and projection lighting.Learn more
