Timber Service Life Design Guide
Architects can use the Timber Service Life Design Guide to gain an understanding of the environmental, performance and aesthetic advantages of designing with sustainably sourced wood. The guide is designed to help improve the safety and performance of timber in construction.
Chapters cover timber-framed construction for BCA-compliant sound- and fire-rated construction in the following applications: townhouse buildings Class 1a, multi-residential buildings class 2, 3 and 9c, Class 5, 6, 9a and 9b.
The guide also covers building with timber in bushfire-prone areas. It explains the updated standard AS 3959-2009, “Construction in bushfire-prone areas,” and what exactly is required for each of the new bushfire attack level (BAL) areas. Also included is a timber service life design guide with Timberlife software.
