Recoh-Vert wins Selector Best New Product Award 2013
The winner and finalists in this year's Selector DesignBUILD Best New Product award were announced at a function in Sydney's Darling Harbor on the evening of 8 May. Products entered into the award must have been released in Australia in the 12 months prior to DesignBUILD 2013, and were evaluated by an independent jury of design industry leaders John de Manincor (Principal, DRAW), Paul Brace (Director, Jackson Teece) and Susanne Mayer (Senior Associate, BVN).
The Recoh-vert Heat Recovery System from Evo Building Products is the overall winner. Jurors cited the heat exchanger system, which reclaims energy from hot water appliances and can reduce CO₂ emissions, as "a simple and effective system to reduce energy consumption" that "jumped out immediately" due to its "clear innovative thinking."
The Urban Metallic range of bricks by PGH Bricks & Pavers was an equal finalist, described as "a product with instant sex appeal" and a "surefire marketplace winner" likely to be specified by architects.
This year's other finalist was eco+ Soft Touch 'Sunrise' by Godfrey Hirst. The eco+ sustainable carpet is made of a new corn-sugar-based polymer from Du Pont: jurors appreciated its response to "the environmental shortcomings of synthetic polymers," and its provision of an excellent carpeting option to specifiers seeking Green Star certification for their projects.
Winners and finalists each receive a plaque to commemorate their achievment, with the winner Eco-Vert taking away a prize package worth over $8,000 in media exposure via Selector and Architectural Product News.
