New Ausgrid Australia Stadium grandstand in Newcastle, NSW
This recently completed project will help you understand the benefits of our 74 mm polycarbonate system, where our product was specified. Everbright E610 Opal was installed recently on the new Grandstand at the Ausgrid Australia Stadium Newcastle NSW, Turton Road, New Lambton, Newcastle, NSW 2300. For the Newcastle Knights supporters, 2011 proved to be a rollercoaster with their National Rugby League team scraping into the finals to finish the year in eight position. However, for many fans the tension was made more bearable by being able to watch their team from a new Grandstand at Ausgrid Stadium. This Grandstand features a modern translucent featured roof that provides spectators with natural light while protecting them from the weather.
The Everbright E610 product was used on the entire length of the upper concourse level at this stadium and allowed natural light to penetrate through proving a pleasant environment for the spectators. This illuminated this area and brighten up the complete retail precinct, which otherwise would have been a dark space. The Everbright free span was 4.3 m x 120 m running the length of the grandstand. Everbright panels were supplied in 4.3 m lengths (free span) and in 600 mm configurations. Our panels simply clip together, making the installation process rapid, as our product only requires to be joined every 600 mm on site. Everbright E610 free spanned 4.3 m, incorporating Locking System 2.5. Locking System LS2.5 weight and dead load calculations = 14 kg/sqm with a dead load of 0.142 kN/sqm. See design loads, which shows you in more detail the different locking systems available.
The total area was around 516 sqm 4.3 m x 120 m (11 x bays). The installation time on this project was five days and three men were available on site.
The design brief for this development was for a modern looking translucent system, that would provide clear unsupported spans. An important consideration due to the nature of the facility was for a product that had superior fire performance characteristics. Our product was selected due to the heavy duty nature of our 74 mm polycarbonate panels and our products resistance to hazardous fire conditions. Our product does not ignite, produce flaming droplets or release dangerous smoke emissions in the extreme fire situations.
The specification also stipulated a system that was fully trafficable, without requiring the need for safety mesh to be installed underneath, as with traditional products spoiling the visual appearance. Additional clients instructions were for a product that had large free span capabilities, superior thermal and acoustic performance. Another key factor was for a product which has a long life span. Makrolon 1243 is the material used in our polycarbonate roofing system, which is part of the worldwide Bayer Group. Everbright E610 comes with a manufacture’s worldwide 10 year warranty and the panels have a life expectancy in excess of 35 years.
Opal was the colour selected with 67% light transmissions.
The Everbright E610 system gives a unique visual appearance and minimizes structural requirements making use of all the natural light available. Since less structure is required with our system less shadows are created, and as such the natural light translucency is at its full potential, making our system an excellent selection for this new stadium development.
