Hansgrohe Award 2013 presented to young international designers
This year’s competition for the Hansgrohe Award for sustainable design ideas with regards to water has successfully come to a close. Up-and-coming young designers from all over the world submitted around 135 concepts around the topic “My Open Shower Space” in the hopes of winning the award, which was presented for the third time within the scope of the iF concept design award 2013. The seven best concepts were now honoured in Hamburg. The prize money, totaling 5,000 Euros, is shared among the winners, who hail from China, Australia and Germany.
The interplay between water and space is an international theme
Philippe Grohe, Head of the Axor brand, is clearly enthusiastic about the achievements of the talented young designers: “As the initiator and sponsor of the ‘Hansgrohe Award 2013: Efficient Water Design’, we want to give young designers the opportunity to address the element of water and to present their ideas to a specialist jury. Under the theme ‘My Open Shower Space’, this year’s submissions show interesting approaches around the topic of ‘showering’. I was particularly pleased to see the large number of international submissions – these clearly show that the interplay of water and space is gaining importance with young designers all over the world.”
This year, the jury members, Andreas Haug, one of the founders and partners of Phoenix Design in Stuttgart, Jan Heisterhagen, Head of Hansgrohe Product Management and Philippe Grohe, were particularly impressed with two concepts from Germany: “Watertube”, the alternative shower concept, and “Storm”, the body washing system. Both submissions came from a design team at Pforzheim University. “Watertube” impressed with its really new shower experience, detailed work and operation. In contrast to this design which shows the emotional side of water, “Storm” is a high-tech design which combines hygiene and efficiency.
