Functional, funky bike cage for Alice Springs
When Ross Park Primary School in Alice Springs approached BikeStorage for a creative solution to a 24 bike parking cage for the school the company’s Director Graeme Roth jumped at the chance.
The brief was to park 24 bikes in an innovative way, complement the existing site and turn it all around within two months.
Because the school was keen to showcase its commitment to cycling, the bicycle shed was going ‘front of house’ at the school so it had to make an impact.
The funky shape of the roof was www.bikestorage.com.au’s design solution and it has set the benchmark for combining aesthetics with function in the design of bicycle parking facilities.
Challenges included managing a project that involved rolling, galvanising and long distance freight logistics but with most of the hard work done off site the school had its unique, Australian Standards compliant and functional bicycle parking shed delivered on time and on budget.
“We hope that it can serve as a model around Australia to provide secure, functional bicycle storage to enthuse architects and planners to put bike storage front and centre of the next development and reap the health and environmental benefits,” says BikeStorage’s Director Graeme Roth.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to work with a client that walked the talk when it comes to active transport. Investing in such a unique bicycle cage encourages cycling among students and staff by showing that cycling is highly valued,” he says.
