Cemintel 9 Dots Award 2014 – once in a lifetime chance
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” Benjamin Franklin.

The significance placed on the value of active learning is not lost with these timeless words, words that Cemintel embraces to encourage seasoned practitioners and budding young students to push their limits, test their design boundaries and to work with one of Australia’s most esteemed judging panels, in the third annual 9 Dots Award. We never stop learning.

In April 2014, CSR Cemintel launched its annual 9 Dots Award for the third consecutive year, anticipating that it will yet again, unveil Australia’s gems in the architectural and design industry.

The revered judging panel entrusted with choosing a winner in both the professional and student categories is a harmonious collaboration of well-respected industry peers and mentors.

Malcom Carver, Melonie Bayl-Smith, Michael Holt, Marissa Looby have more than 100 years of combined experienced under their belt, university degrees from all four corners of the globe, recipients of numerous awards and scholarships on top of many architectural trips domestically and internationally.

For some entrants, putting their work forward to this respected panel could be daunting, but as student runner-up, Peter Brown recapitulates beautifully in his recount of last year’s entry process and seen on the Cemintel 9 Dots site; “I value that 9 Dots is judged independently by architects and people that work in the industry which I intend to go into. It was an absolute honour and I thoroughly recommend any student considering entering, just have a crack and do it.”

Johannes Lupolo-Chan, 2013 9 Dots winner, credits the realism of the award design process as a unique point of difference compared to other architectural design competitions; “Participants are encouraged to integrate actual Cemintel products from the creative range into the overall design and thinking which I believe is great.”

Entry is straightforward - all that’s required from applicants is a PDF submission direct to Cemintel before August 28th 2014.

Entries for both the professional and student categories must incorporate the creative range of Cemintel products ranging from Designer Series™ and BareStone™, to Edge™ Vertical Cladding or Expresswall ™ ranges into a design possibility that will redefine the typological ideas of the tight, urban block.
