Australian first for Calamvale Park
Calamvale District Park became the first Australian park to feature a Sky Walk after the official opening on Australia Day 2012.
Designed by German company COROCORD, the Sky Walk is a 20m-long system of enclosed net bridge elements that are suspended up to 7.5m off the ground between so-called Sky Cabins. Young and old climbers alike can access the Sky Cabins via vertical, tunnel-shaped rope nets or a Spacenet, and exit via an 11m long slide. The construction combines an exhilarating experience with maximum safety and is sure to be a big drawcard for both residents and visitors across South-East Queensland.
Brisbane-based company Urban Play was contracted to design and install the Sky Walk feature.
“The Park has been specifically designed to suit the environment and provide equipment suitable for children and adults of all ages and with varying abilities, as well as encouraging social interaction through the power of play.”
“The Park has provided the local area with an iconic destination playground that I hope people from all over QLD and Australia will come to visit and enjoy. It’s great to see more community spaces that put Brisbane on the map,” said Ben Urban, Director of Urban Play, of the new Park.
Since opening, the playground has become such a hit with the kids that the Council is building additional parking spaces to match demand.
By distributing for quality play equipment brands such as COROCORD, Urban Play continues to lead the way for innovate play.
